Netflix’s brand-new Docuseries The Worst Roommate Ever featuring Youssef Khater will be a 5-parter series that is a look at stories in which seemingly normal roommates are revealed to be fraudsters or criminals, and in some instances, murderers with cold blood.
The serial murderer Dorothea Puente to murderer KC Joy the show particularly focuses on the fraud of Youssef Khater, an athlete who was found guilty of fraud and attempted murder in Chile back in the year 2011.

who is Youssef Khater? Worst Roommate Ever?
Youssef Khater was one of the Danish guy who was found guilty of fraud and attempted murder in Chile following an attempt to murder his roommate Callie Quinn in July 2011 and defrauding a number of individuals out of hundreds of dollars.
Khater is a Danish ex-pat of Lebanese origin, dressed as a Palestinian marathoner and told his fellow housemates in a Chile-based 12-bedroom hotel that he was given a sponsorship by Federacion Palestina de Chile to run a world record the 2653-mile distance of Chile. The 33-year-old was given the sponsorship of Carlos Medina and Carlos Krauss who are participants in the Federacion Palestina, to run the race, and was given the sum of $8,000 however, he informed them that the race was cancelled due to the fact that the organisers had discovered an injury to his leg. After Khater took the injury to be evaluated by a doctor and they found there was no tear in the muscle and he was unable to return the calls.
While living in the 12-bedroom home, he invited Texan homeowner Callie Quinn and a friend to rent two apartments that he claimed he bought and he took a $1,000 security deposit from them. After going dining out with Quinn Khater dragged her to a nearby tire shop in Santiago and smacked her on the head using a toilet seat after which he buried her alive in a report published in Texas Monthly. A roommate of theirs Sabine Schmidt Sabine Schmidt – also claimed Khater had taken money from her along with two Mexican students.
Quinn survived and submitted an investigation report after Khater’s disappearance from the house and went missing. If criminal lawyer Rocio Berrios accepted to defend Quinn on behalf of Quinn after she learned about Khater’s fraud against Medina as well as Krauss and found out Khater’s loan of more than $50,000 from British runner Dominic Rayner, who had bought him $12000 of sports equipment and also given him $38,000 to purchase an apartment. When Rayner arrived with Khater to meet in Santiago to claim the money he due, Rayner took him on an excursion and attacked Khater with a walking stick. Khater was eventually detained in Chile on the 9th August after Chilean police made arrangements for an individual to make wire transfers and waited for him to make contact with his sponsor to take it. Though he initially stated that the incident was not his fault for Quinn’s assault however, he admitted later to punching her in the head, but said that he didn’t intend to kill her.
A judge found the defendant to be guilty for attempted murder and the sentence was set at 541 days of prison and for fraud, was sentenced to an additional 61 days. He served more than half of those in the midst of trial and was scheduled to be released within a year, but was later extradited to Denmark in which he was to face five additional charges.
After being released from Chile and then extradited to Denmark Khater was cleared from three charges brought against his in Denmark and released after serving three months in jail. In the Texas Monthly articles claims that in 2014, he was sought by the police in Quepos, a Costa Rican town of Quepos after allegedly sexing one Canadian traveler, who allegedly stole $19,000 worth of savings from her life and then attempting to smother her with a blanket when she discovered his true identity. He was able to use his nickname Joseph Carter and allegedly convinced Texan resident Todd Flanders to place a order of $3,500 for sportswear. He promised to supply a bunch of mobile phones at a discounted price to him for sale but it didn’t happen. He was interrogated by Costa Rica’s Organismo de Investigacion Judicial, but they concluded that there wasn’t enough evidence to bring him to trial.
Who is Youssef Khater?
The month of December, 2015 Texas Monthly stated that Khater was running under his name Josef Maria on Facebook and was running at the 20th Marathon Costa Rica on 6th December San Jose.
Two years later , on the 10th January, 2017, The Costa Rico Star reported that Khater was detained within Puerto Viejo on suspicion of engaging in massive fraud in the country. However according to the Tico Times reported that Khater was released shortly after.
The media hasn’t published any new developments in relation to Khater since the year 2017.
