Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper was rushed back into hospital for an operation following a long period of ill health, reports suggest.
It is reported that the Good Morning Britain star is reported to have stayed by his bedside during the night on Friday. Derek has been admitted and discharged from hospital since contracting coronavirus in March of 2020. Over the past two years the patient has experienced long-term bouts of health problems, coronavirus causing the most harm to his organs, the Mirror says.
Derek is an advisor to the political system in the past, is one of those most affected by Covid in the nation.
It is reported that he has undergone surgery on his kidneys.
He suffered serious harm to his organs when being placed on a ventilator, and was in intensive medical care for 214 consecutive days.
Kate has taken a break of several weeks on taking a break from her Good Morning Britain and Smooth FM radio shows to be at Derek’s bedside after Derek’s condition took a turn to the worse. The news later revealed that Derek was suffering from life-threatening sepsis.
In her interview with Derek’s condition, she said that on returning to GMB she explained: “Derek came out of hospital just three weeks ago. Until then, we had not experienced any medical flare-ups. Then , we were on air and I received an urgent call from the person who was looking after Derek saying they were really concerned’. He was just extremely unwell.
“I whizzed home and it just went ‘boom’ from there. We called an ambulance, he went to A&E and they said he had very severe, life-threatening sepsis. It was really dramatic.”
“By process of elimination and questions, a really junior doctor asked me what I thought it might be,” she explained. “He realized that it was not Covid because we’d tested it before however I told him that I was wondering if this was an infection in the urine but we didn’t have anything to take the sample.
“They just went, ‘kidneys’. Unfortunately his kidneys were really badly infected, blocked, and the challenge now is to save them. So that’s where we’ve been for the last three weeks.”
