Escape Room 3 Tournament of Champions may perhaps not be as huge of a success like the original film however the sequel provided viewers with something to think about after it was released via streaming channels.
The version that was released for home viewing was an expanded version of the film. But , unlike the majority of extended editions or director’s cuts there was a lot that was unique about the film, not least the end.
Additionally, the extended version is also available. Escape Room: Tournament of Champions has even eliminated an important return in the original theatrical release. It’s so different that , if there is a 3rd Escape Room film occurs (and it’s not confirmed as of yet) the film’s makers will need to choose which version to take from.
You’re probably thinking it can’t seem that much different is it? Let’s take a look at both versions of the film to demonstrate how different the “new” version of the film is.
Splintersare ahead of the two versions of Escape Room: Tournament of Champions So be aware If you haven’t yet seen the film yet.
The sequel brings back survivors of the first film, Zoey (Taylor Russell) and Ben (Logan Miller) and Ben (Logan Miller) as they are forced to return to another deadly series of room escapes by the evil Minos Corporation.
The second time they’re joined by former victims in Minos escape room, however they’re essentially disposable victims. It appears like Ben has been killed in one of the rooms however, it’s later discovered that Ben was buried in the sand before ending being trapped in a different puzzle.
After an acid rain, which kills the last two rookies, Zoey meets Amanda (Deborah Ann Woll) whom we thought had passed away in the film’s first.
But she escaped the fall and became a puzzle-maker with Minos after they kidnapped their daughter Sonya as well as forced Amanda to join their ranks. Amanda soon starts to rebel against Minos but she joins with Zoey to rescue Ben of his latest trap.
The group escapes from Minos and make a report of everything they can in the name of police. However, when Zoey and Ben return to home via a plane, they realize it’s another escape space and that sleeping gas is leaking into the cabin after the film comes to an end.
This is the theatrical version, however. The extended version technically has eight more minutes (96 minutes to 8 hours) however, while there’s been added scenes and deleted, there’s also been plenty of footage removed too.
This means that it may appear to be eight minutes shorter in reality, there’s 26 minutes of brand-new footage that drastically alters the storyline.
Instead of the opening scene featuring Zoey and Ben making preparations to travel towards New York City, the alternate cut begins by introducing Henry (James Frain) as a Gamemaster for Minos as well as the wife of his Sonya as well as their child Claire. After Sonya threats to quit Henry and take Claire her place, she mysteriously passes away while locked in the sauna.
The film is a continuation of the original film in which Zoey and Ben are trapped in newly constructed escape room. Things unfold exactly the same way with Ben’s supposed death before an acid-soaked room, where the plot takes a major turn towards the theatrical version.
