Coronation Street favourite Charlie de Melo has switched his focus to the theater following his his departure as Imran Habeeb in the month of September.
On Instagram yesterday (June 23) the former soap star posted a casting announcement to Nottingham Playhouse’s staging the play The Clothes They Didn’t Dress In Based on the novel by Alan Bennett.
He’ll be playing opposite Sophie Thompson (Harry Potter), Adrian Scarborough (Gavin & Stacey), Natasha Magigi (Anatomy of an Scandal) as well as the newcomer Ned Costello.
“When I first announced to my (utterly bewildered) parents, about 1000 years ago, that I wanted to make a try at being an Actor, my Mum (presumably after the shock and disappointment had worn off) gave me three provisos, if this was the path I wished for myself. Three things she wanted for my life and career,” De Melo’s caption read.
“Very pleased to say that, as of today, I’ve ticked the second off that list. This theatre, with this material, with this combination of people involved. I can’t wait to get started [red heart emoji].”
Weatherfield’s best dropped by the comments to express their appreciation and congratulate the Weatherfield team, including Abi Webster’s Sally Carpenter commenting: “Ooooooh! It’s so thrilling!”
Alexandra Mardell, better known as Emma Brooker Emma Brooker, tweeted: “Yes!” Alongside three smiling Emojis.
In the context of Mardell The actress has been confirmed as an integral part of BBC Radio’s comedy of four parts “No Platformed.”.
“Outnumbered”‘s Hugh Dennis and Outlander‘s Tim Downie are also in the mix in the show, and the synopsis teases: “Three members of staff and one shabby station with no passengers. A brand new comedy that runs the train through the world of sitcoms via an outbound platform that is crowded with famous cameos hilarious quips, and very funny jokes.”

Charlie announced the news via his website and shared that the show will take place live onstage in the theater production The Clothes They Stood Up In.
In a frank posting on social media, the actor wrote: “When I first announced to my (utterly stupefied) parents about 1,000 years ago that I would like to try my hand at acting Actor My mother (presumably having been shocked and disbelief had faded) provided me with three restrictions to consider if this was indeed the career path I wanted for myself.
