A swingers club that draws patrons from across Britain as well as Ireland is in danger of closure if it doesn’t find an alternative location.
The Attic In Derby The Attic, in Derby, has until the end of November 2023 in order to find the right space for its members meet in following the sale of the building that it is currently meeting in was purchased.
The owner Ron Rothwell said it is an unsettling situation, Derbyshire Live reports.
The 75-year-old has said: “It’s devastating, really. We’ve done everything that we could, and we’ve been in compliance with the council as well as everyone else with every aspect.
“People come across Scotland, Ireland, Wales and all over the world to attend the club. We’ve seen a couple who visit from France every month.
“I’ll grieve if this disappears. We’ve invested a lot into making it flourish and increase. We’re hoping that the council will provide us with some support to help us get there.
“The customers are all upset and we’ve had a lot of offers of help to move if we get somewhere. It’s surprising how many people have said they’ll come and help, but we do get a lot of help from people. People are happy with it and they like to feel a part of things.”
The building was then transferred the Nottingham-based ALB Group in October last year.
The Attic is home to around 20 employees which will lose their jobs when the club shuts down for good. The club is open to singles and couples of all ages, and has seen the younger generation of couples who have been attending recently.
There are 43 rooms, with themes that include schoolroom and Aztec It also has an adult maze, cinema and the dungeon. It also has an authentic dog-friendly zone.
One of the most impressive features for the Club is the realistic dog-walking area, which is complete with a unique number plate.
It’s PS15 to couples. PS30 to single males and PS10 for women who are single to access and make use of the rooms of the club equipped with cleaning equipment at hand in every room to ensure cleanliness.
Although he is aware that it may not make sense to everyone, Rothwell claims that the website is extremely popular due to its warm and welcoming environment. It can accommodate more than 500 people simultaneously.
Mr. Rothwell states that the club is well-known among members of the LGBTQ+ community as it provides a welcoming environment for everyone regardless of the sexual orientation.
He also said that if we find the right location the next thing we’re trying to do is create an advice center in the area also for people who aren’t familiar with this kind of thing.
“We realize that not everyone will like each other, and that’s the reason we’re trying to create something, to let people come in and check out the things we are doing. It’s not the way you’d expect.
“You do not have people slamming you on the head the moment you step through the door, or anything similar to this. It’s a peaceful and welcoming place.
“All the couples mix in, having a laugh, having a drink – they can do what they like.”
Formerly, Osmaston Works was bought by ALB Group for an undisclosed cost. ALB Group has a long history of converting former industrial buildings into apartment buildings.
