Sean Dyche explains why he attends Nottingham Forest games.
After leaving Turf Moor, Dyche has been without a job since April. Before the Reds offered Steve Cooper a new three-year contract, Dyche was said to have sent Ian Woan, his assistant manager, to monitor Premier League clubs such as Forest and Leicester City.
Cooper seemed set to take over the Reds after their disappointing start to the season. Woan was reportedly asked to monitor the Reds in case of a change.
However, he was able to see Forest’s games from his own perspective.Sean Dyche stated, “I have been to Barnsley to take a look at Mike Duff’s games.”
“I have also visited Forest several times to take a look at them. It’s more than just looking at things.
It’s much more fun to see what coaches and other people do. I have only been able to take a more detailed look at the market in the past few months.
“I cannot seem to go to Forest without people believing there is an ulterior motive.” They happen to be my nearest team, even though I live in Nottingham.
The 51-year-old played 14 times for the Hatters in the old Second Division while on loan from Bristol City during the 1998-99 campaign and scored his only goal for the club in a 1-0 win over Gillingham at Kenilworth Road.
The two-time Premier League Manager of the Month prize-winner is yet to land his first role back in management since he was sacked by Burnley in April following a decorative decade at Turf Moor.
Dyche, who had a spell in charge of Watford beforehand after Malky Mackay left his position at Vicarage Road in June 2011, won promotion from the Championship on two occasions with the Clarets, guided them into Europe for the first time in more than half-a-century and oversaw six successive seasons in the top flight.
