Black Bird tells the real-life story of drug dealer Jimmy Keene, as played by Taron Egerton, and is based on his book In with the Devil

It wasn’t until the remains of 15-year old Jessica Roach were found in the late part of 1993 that Larry became suspect. Jessica was missing for just a half-mile distance from the house she lived at Georgetown, Illinois on September 20, 1993, while she was riding her brand new bicycle.
The remains of her were discovered on the 8th of November just after, a person spoke up and said they’d witnessed a man leaving across the field, in which her body was discovered and that he had went off in van. A few months later, this led police to Larry Hall, who’s Dodge van was reported to have been as being a target for young girls around the area several times between 1993 and 1994. One girl noted the license plate for the vehicle and reported it to the police, who found it was owned by Larry Hall.
“That plate was returned with Larry Hall, who we didn’t know about at the time.” Gary Miller, the chief investigator of the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois stated to CNN.com. Miller took Hall into the office for questioning as well as showed Hall a photograph of Jessica.

In the show, there were other missing girls. “All of them appeared similar. I’m not able to remember them all. I have raped several women in different locations, but I cannot remember which ones I injured.”
However, Hall recanted everything he was saying – which included a confession to the murder of University student Tricia Reitler the following day, and police began to question whether they had caught the serial killer or an alleged serial confessor.
Hall was later found guilty of the kidnapping of Jessica Roach following evidence discovered in his van. However, authorities believed that he was the culprit in a number of other murders, and enlisted the assistance by the prisoner Jimmy Keene to befriend Larry.
In the report by CNN, Larry did admit to Jimmy in prison that he’d killed Tricia however, he did not mention where the body of Tricia was. A few days later, Jimmy found Larry in the prison’s workshop holding an outline of the map. The man was carving wood falcons, and the map was displaying them.

In the show, Larry goes into far more detail, willingly providing Jimmy his map, and bragging about his crimes, and Jimmy insists that he bring peace to the families by showing the location of the burial sites.
If Larry refusesto cooperate, Jimmy gets angry and calls Larry as a monster, thereby the friendship is over.
In reality, Keene – believing he was going to be released immediately if that he had informed that the FBI regarding the maps – stopped pretending to be Hall’s friendand blowing the cover of his own.
Since his imprisonment, Larry Hall has confessed to 15 murders and later, he has retracted every confession. Larry Hall also stated in an interview to the Associated Press in 2011 that he had kidnapped 39 women between 1980 and 1994.
