Upload season 3 : The second season of Upload sees Nathan (Robbie Amell), afterlife even more complicated and packed than most people’s actual life… and things seem to only get more complicated.
Are they/weren’t they in a relationship? Check. . Overwhelmingly, check.
This is a premise that, while futuristic, is very relatable. We won’t stop saying “check now.”
Upload Season two’s cliffhanger ending left us with many questions and even lives in doubt.
Fans who have seen the seven-episode new season will be eager to hear about season three and what’s next.
Consider us your personal angels who will keep you informed about these matters. This is the third season of a possible Upload season.
Upload season 3 release date: When is it coming back?
Good news! As of May 2022, Upload has been confirmed to return for season three.
In a statement celebrating the show’s renewal, Amazon’s Head of Global TV Vernon Sanders wrote (via Deadline): “Upload has become a bonafide hit that continues to be one of the most watched comedy originals on Prime Video. The series continues to connect and provoke endless possibilities for the future of technology and humanity.
“With Greg’s distinct comedic take along with the dynamic creative team and talented actors, they’ve made a globally relevant series which we’re all incredibly proud to bring back another season for our customers.”
Writer Greg Daniels had made no secret that he had hopes for more episodes, even admitting to being back writing season three before the second season even aired.
At the time, he was also writing Netflix comedy Space Force, which has now been cancelled.
Talking to Collider ahead of season two’s release, Daniels explained: “I’m in the middle of writing season three with the room. We’re halfway through. So, I have strong hopes that that one is just going to keep rolling forwards.
“I mean [Prime Video] are very excited about the second-season episodes, and that’s one of the reasons why we’re deep in the writing of it… It’s a very visual-effects-heavy show, and so even though we shot it before Space Force, it’s coming out the month after Space Force because so much visual-effects work makes the post process very long.
“So they really want to get on it so season three can happen as quickly as we can make it happen.”
On confirmation the show will continue, he said in a statement: “I’m thrilled to continue the story of Nathan and Nora and the other residents of Lakeview and near-future America as they try to have fun and do the right thing in both the real and virtual worlds.”
Filming schedules are almost guaranteed to be complicated, with key cast members taking on new projects. Notably, Robbie Amell who plays leading man Nathan has been cast in the upcoming season three of The Witcher.
However, production started on August 18 (via Midgard Times) and is expected to wrap in November. Series stars Amell, Andy Allo, and Owen Daniels confirmed the start of production via their social media channels.
Upload season 3 cast: Who will be in it?
There are three key players for Upload, so you can expect them all to come back.
Leading the show is Robbie Amell as tech-whizz-turned-dead-guy Nathan, who is now (kind of) back to life and living in the normal, non-virtual reality.
Then there’s his romantic interest Nora (Andy Allo), the virtual-reality worker who has turned to the anti-tech movement The Ludds on the advice of her father. However she’s proven to be quite the leader and is now near the top of the anarchist group.
Nathan’s now ex-girlfriend, Ingrid (Allegra Edwards), also isn’t done, and continues to go to extreme lengths to keep him around. Pretending to upload into the virtual Lakeview reality in order to remain close to him, she spent most of season two in a tricked-out scubasuit in a bathtub, which allows her to live in Lakeview without question.
It’s likely if we return to Lakeview we’ll see more of Kevin Bigley, who plays Nathan’s ‘bestie’ Luke, and Owen Daniels, the long-standing AI Guy whose face is literally everywhere within the system.
Nora’s best friend Aleesha (Zainab Johnson) is also likely to make a return, depending on where her alliance falls in her job as an upload angel, and her friendship with Nora.
Jeanine Mason has joined the cast of Upload season three, according to Variety.
Mason will appear as brand new character Karina Silva. The character has been described as “a charming senior Horizen executive in charge of new product development and cybersecurity.”
Mason is perhaps best known for her work in The CW series Roswell, New Mexico, the second adaptation of the Roswell High book series, which ran for four seasons. Mason’s other work includes Grey’s Anatomy, Trolls: Trolls Topia, and Grace and Frankie. She’s also known for coming first place in the fifth season of the Fox reality series So You Think You Can Dance.
