Unnamed Wisconsin prisoner is believed to have confessed that he was responsible for the death of Teresa Halbach, a crime that is featured on Netflix’s “Making a Murderer” topic Steven Avery is currently serving the life sentence for.
In the report by Newsweek, the prisoner told the producers of the upcoming show Indicting a murderer that he was the one responsible for Ms. Halbach’s death.
The director of the series said that the confession didn’t originate directly from Dassey or Avery and stated: “We haven’t confirmed the validity of the confession however, given that it was made by a prominent murderer who was convicted from Wisconsin We feel we have a responsibility to present any potential evidence available to police officials and legal teams.
“Having been in production for 20 months, we’ve uncovered an unfathomable amount of information and evidence that is leading us to the truth. Our investigation does not end here.”
Steven Avery was convicted of the murder of Teresa Halbach in 2007 However, he has always kept his innocence.
Brendan Dassey, his nephew Brendan Dassey, was also found guilty of having been a participant to first-degree murder sexual assault, homicide, and mutilation of a body in his trial after he made admissions that some believe were forced during interrogation. He received a life sentence prison.
Avery’s trial in 2007 played out in the initial 10-episodes of Netflix documentary Making a Murderer and the second season examined the consequences of the conviction of Dassey and the many appeals which have occurred.
The lawyer of Avery Kathleen Zellner responded to the revelations of the confession via Twitter and wrote: “We received the handwritten confession on Saturday. It is worthless unless it is corroborated.”
The confession comes just a few weeks after Zellner stated she was offering “a reward of $100,000 is being offered, by a concerned citizen, for the arrest and conviction of the real killer of Teresa Halbach” and her law firm says that the confession is the direct result of the reward offered.
“The inmates [sic] name is familiar to us but I do not want to release it yet. We were contacted a week ago by the inmate. He mailed the handwritten confession to us before he contacted the production company,” Zellner’s law firm said to the Heavy .
“The confession occurred solely because of our 100k reward offer and had nothing to do with the production company. When we did not immediately respond to this person he called the production company.”
Diesey’s attorney Laura Nirider has also responded to the report of the confessional via Twitter Laura Nirider, the lawyer for Dassey’s attorney, wrote: “We are aware of the alleged confession given by an inmate in Brendan’s case. Thanks to all for your messages.”
