Selsey Grape vine : West Sussex is the home of many seaside towns , however Selsey remains one of the best kept secrets.
The less well-known town on the coast is located at the tip on Manhood Bay. Manhood Peninsula, tucking it away from the remainder of Sussex.
It’s not as well-known as other seaside resorts in the area such as the Witterings however, the things in the town look like something from the perfect American television set.
A few miles to the south to Chichester , Selsey is a place that feels like a secret, with a an unbeatable beach that feels private and tranquil.
While driving along the one long, straight road that leads into and out of town, it’s as if you’re entering an entirely new world.
The houses are adorable and beautiful, and the houses are even more like American suburban neighborhoods that have white fences when you get towards the beach.
The town’s charm could appear as if it’s a flimsy place with charming homes and village atmospheres for tourists, but residents have the privilege of making the town a an integral part of their lives.
While it may seem like an undiscovered, small town, Selsey is still home to many holiday resorts, schools and restaurants, golf courses shops, and even its own football club that is non-league with a stunning ground located close to the main road.
There are more than 100 community and arts organizations within the town, which means there’s always a contest or event worth taking part or in.
Coastal erosion was long an issue in the town, with about half a mile of terrain being washed away by the sea over the past 200 years.
It may not seem like a lot but, to put it into perspective, it’s about the same distance that Selsey Beach car park to the Boots store located on the top street.
But, the community is working together to ensure that this will not happen in the near future.
Massive efforts have been undertaken to reduce the effect of flooding on the coastline and the authorities are making progress.
One of Selsey’s beautiful places The Medmerry reserve, which is a stunning nature reserve, was created by humans in 2013 and was dubbed Europe’s biggest coastal realignment plan to protect villages and towns from floods.
The idea of Medmerry was that was conceived by two women from the area, Carolyn Cobbold and Renee Santema who were concerned about the plan in place to protect the coast.
Their approach was so important that it’s being included at Geography A Level and GCSE.
The town’s effort to save its own from losing in the ocean is one of the examples of the united spirit that residents share and Medmerry is only one of the beautiful regions of Selsey to take in.
There’s also a second RSPB nature reserve called Pagham Harbour, and both are perfect to run, walk or cycle path with breathtaking views that will keep you going.
A couple who took with their dogs along the beach told me that these activities of the day are when you are able to be able to appreciate how beautiful Selsey.
Carl 56, who lives in the area said to journalists “These are the best moments when you live here, even in winter the beach is the place you want to be to take in the view when you’re doing something like the dog walk, especially now in lockdown.”
His wife was of the opinion that Selsey’s “charm” is when it is quieter during the summer months.
