Nottingham Forest are “very interested” in signing American defender Reggie Cannon but remain some away from signing a contract according to most recent reports.
The Reds have a shortage of options in the defence with just one senior option at left-back , and injuries implying they’re lacking players for right-back.
Nicholas Ioannou (loan, Como 1907) and Tyler Blackett (FC Cincinnati) have both left from the City Ground this summer, that means Gaetan Bong will be the sole left-back option for a senior player.
At right-back, an on-loan defender Jodi Osei-Tutu was ostracized during the game against Blackburn Rovers with a hamstring injury. Jordan Lawrence is suspended having been given 2 yellows.
This means Reds manager Chris Hughton is on the hunt for defensive reinforcements.
Cannon has played for Portuguese team Boavista in the position of a right-back as well as on the right side of midfield. is attracting interest from various Championship clubs.
According to sports journalist freelance Will Unwin, the Reds remain to complete their work to finalize the deal.
The tweet read: “Nottingham Forest are very interested in signing Reggie Cannon but are a long way off matching Boavista’s valuation of the defender, I am told.”
Since his arrival at Boavista the defender’s versatility is such that his absence was limited to just three games out of 36 played for Boavista in all competitions, as they were thirteenth place in Primera Liga last term.
The 23-year-old’s outstanding performances in league competitions has led to him becoming an integral part of the US national team.
He was a part of two highly successful United States squads that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup and Nations League in the summer of this year.
