Bankroll
This is the term used to describe the money you, or a player, has available to gamble with. It’s wise to not confuse this with your total available money, only the amount you wish to risk and gamble within a casino or virtual casino.
Blackjack
Not only is this the name of the game, but it’s also a term used within the game when you or a player holds the perfect hand. A perfect hand consists of an Ace and either a ten or royal picture card (Jack, Queen or King).
Cold Deck
This is a term used when the shoe (the name given to the box holding all the undealt cards) is throwing out bad cards which is causing players around the table to lose too much, with no wins produced.
Discards
When cards have been played, they need to be discarded to one side. This pile of used cards is referred to as ‘discards’. They will be placed on the side until the whole shoe has been dealt and played with and a new reshuffled shoe has replaced the used shoe. The cards will then be reshuffled and reissued into a shoe, ready for another table to require a new set of cards.
Hit
This term is used by you, or a player, that requires another card added to their dealt hand. So, if you’ve been dealt your two cards and feel another card could be added to help you reach a closer value to 21, ask the dealer to “hit” you with another card.
Stand
This term is used by you, or a player, that wishes to stick with the hand they have, whether this be with or without additional cards having been added to your hand. So, if you feel like another card isn’t needed in your hand to reach a value closer to 21, simply tell the dealer that you wish to “stand” with the hand that you hold.
Now you know a little more about the terms and phrases used within a game of Blackjack, for the next time you step up to a Blackjack table.
This could be within a live-streamed game, a computer-generated game or a physical game played within your favourite brick and mortar establishment.
Whatever you choose, you’ll have a better understanding about what is being said and referred to when waiting your turn to be dealt by the dealer.
