According to the Scottish Police Federation, “This year’s negotiations were extraordinarily difficult and took place against the worst cost-of-living crisis in 50 years.” While we recognize that this agreement won’t completely solve these problems, we hope it will at least mitigate them.
“We are grateful for the steadfast commitment made by members to take unprecedented actions in response to the original offer of PS565 (1.4%), which has helped us get to where we are today. Without that commitment, the significant improvement we have now would not have been possible.
“This was a difficult and long process for our officers. We believe that police officers deserve more but this agreement is the best we could have reached under all circumstances.
Police Scotland stated that the agreement was made in recognition of the current cost-of-living crisis and recognizes the valuable contribution police officers make to keeping communities and people safe across Scotland.
Martyn Evans is the Chair of the Scottish Police Authority. He stated: “I appreciate this agreement after constructive dialogue with staff. This agreement recognizes the important and valuable role that police officers play in ensuring safety and well-being of Scotland’s communities.
Sir Iain Livingstone, Chief Constable, stated: “Officers work tirelessly everyday to keep people safe throughout the country. It is right that their dedication to public service be recognized and rewarded.
“I am happy that the Police Negotiating Board reached an agreement on this,” said the officer. This is especially important at a time in which officers are worried about the cost-of-living crisis and its effect on their families.
Ash Regan, Community Safety Minister, added: “Our officers play an essential role in keeping communities safe. I am pleased that the Police Negotiating Board reached agreement on Police Officer Pay for this year.
“I would like to thank everyone involved in obtaining a deal that reflects the dedication and hard work of police officers every day.”
