Nottingham Forest have signed the defender Omar Richards from Bayern Munich on a contract of four years. Richards was a 17-year-old who played 17 times in all matches in the German champions last season , after having made the switch from Reading in the summer of last year and has now joined the newly promoted Premier League side for a price of PS8.5m.
The Forest website says that the 24-year-old said: “I’m thrilled to return to England and join Nottingham Forest at such an exciting moment. Nottingham Forest has had the best of the past few months, and they have huge expectations to make an eventual Premier League return.
“I’ve had the privilege of playing against Forest previously, and they receive such great support from their supporters, and their City Ground is an amazing location that I am now able to be a part of.”
London-born Richards Richards, who was a former England Under-21s player Richards, born in London, was instrumental in helping Bayern secure their Bundesliga trophy during his sole year in Bavaria. He started his career at Fulham but was then transferred towards Reading where he made his debut as a senior player for Royals in August 2017. Royals in August of 2017.
“I’ve observed lots of Omar throughout his time at Reading and, along with our team of recruiters we’ve been watching his development through Germany,” said Nottingham Forest’s director, Steve Cooper.
“He has been a successful player in the past and was one of the top full-backs in the Championship however, he has since experienced his first Champions League and the Bundesliga with one of the largest clubs in the world.
Richards was a regular across all leagues with Reading before securing a transfer to Bayern as an independent player at the close of the season of 2020-21.
