M1 Crash : After a collision, the M1 was shut down for several hours today near East Midlands Airport. From junction 25 near Castle Donington, the southbound carriageway was closed.
Inrix, a traffic monitoring website, reported that there were long delays and tailbacks for many miles. The incident was attended by emergency services and National Highways officers. Avoid the area, as congestion has built up on the motorway’s and nearby roads.
National Highways shared a message to Twitter followers saying that Lanes 1, 2, and 3 were closed on the M1 Southbound between junction 25 in Nottingham and junction 24 at East Midlands Airport because of a collision. The emergency services are on the scene. There are delays of approximately 20 minutes and congestion of about three miles.
As congestion clears, there will be delays of up to 30 minutes
Motorists are being reminded to allow extra time as delays of up to 30 minutes can still be expected as they approach the crash site as congestion clears.
The southbound M1 has been fully reopened
All lanes on the M1 Southbound have been reopened. National Highways has confirmed that all vehicles involved in the collision are now safe and the road is free from oil and debris.
