Power Book II: Ghost season 2 brings back the character of the iconic power Councilman character Rashad Tate who is who is played by Larenz Tate, ahead of the spinoff of his series The Power Book V Influence.
However, his return to the show would not have been complete without his on-and-off screen bro Lahmard Tate. He is the role of a police officer Kamaal Tate on the show.
Exclusively speaking to Digital Spy, Larenz Tate shares the reasons why Larenz Tate’s sister Lahmard joining the team of “Power” is among the “favourite parts of being on Ghost season two.”
“I love everyone, all actors and creators as well as directors, writers producers, and everything however, my brother my real-life brother who plays my screen brother is so satisfying.
“We’re business partners, so we’re doing a lot of work behind the scenes, including making and all that great things. But we also work together front of cameras to benefit from our mutual knowledge and to portray characters that are totally different from us and then to establish a brotherly relationship that is seamless. So, we’re in a position to bring what we have as brothers and the enthusiasm that feels perfect, and I’m glad that Lahmard is an integral part of that and is kicking ass on the show.
“I’m not just bragging about my bro, but he’s for real like… Lahmard can go like he’s a problem, you know what I’m saying. We talk about that competitive thing. He kicks ass man and I’m just loving the fact that I was able to share the screen with him.”
Menace II Society star then explained the way Showrunner Courtney Kemp came up with the idea of giving Rashad an older brother in the first power series.
“Courtney Kemp, one of the producers on the program when she stated, you know in the Power”, she said, “Hey I’m going introduce an uncle, an individual from my family’. And the moment she said, ‘Well whom do you think is your brother? she was unable to even say it.
“And I was like ‘ Lahmard Tate, he’s my real brother’. She was like, ‘Done. You don’t even have to say it twice.’ And she was thinking to herself, ‘Wait, a min… of course your real brother’.”
It was reported that the Love Jones actor apologized to anyone who might have tried to audition for the role Kamaal and said “Whoever wanted to audition for the role to be Kamaal is, hey it’s a shame. I know that’s what I’m trying to say. We’re keeping it as the home team, are you kidding me? We play along with home as often as we can.
“And I haven’t always been like that. I’ve always [been] like whoever gets the part it’s all good. But this one, I said I wanted it. I wanted that brotherhood, I wanted that authenticity, for real. And they were able to carry it into Ghost season two. So yeah, Lahmard is here and he’s representing as Kamaal.”
While it’s the first time that fans have seen Lahmard on the screen as a character, he was also in Barbershop, Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G and the Wayan’s Brothers parody movie Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, to mention some.
