Julie and Phantoms season 2 was a hit with fans following the first episode in the series, with the story of a rock group that had been cut off returning to the public through their music that is adorable, touching and funny.
However, despite it being an instant hit, it was not a top-rated show in the world of High School Musical and Descendants creator Kenny Ortega, it seems as the show’s creators and the cast was cut short before it had its chance.
What’s the story? Let’s find out what we know.
Julie and The Phantoms season 2 What’s was the story?
The film will be released in September 2020. Julie along with the Phantoms season one was a big popular with all who saw it – children and adults too.
The show was named the the award for Best Music Moment during the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2021 for the song ‘Edge Of Great”, beating other contenders likethe likes of WandaVision’s “Agatha All Along as well as ‘Brown skin Girl from the Beyonce album Black Is King, among others . Clearly that it left quite an impression on its audience.
It was like a given that the show was going to be renewed for another season and even with Kenny Ortega making no secret of his desire to continue the interview.
“I enjoy the very foundation of it,”” Ortega said (via PopSugar). “Come to the stage, a tiny girl who is waking up three ghosts who explode into her world and sharing her passion for music, and forming an act. There was a bit of Hannah Montana there. It was a spark that sparked my imagination because it contained all the elements that get me excited in wanting to be a part of something, as well as the heart, and magic, and excitement and excitement.”
Producer Shawn Williamson added to CinemaBlend: “I believe so, yes [there are avenues to explore in season two]. Absolutely. So they’ve certainly set them up well for success on the next season. And Dan [Cross] and Dave [Hoge] as the showrunners were spectacular. And I know the second season would be as good or better than the first.”
But then… nothing. Fan-toms soon started bombarding Netflix’s social media for news and they just weren’t giving it up. Over a year-and-a-half went by, with absolutely no news on the future.
Then, in December 2021, Netflix pulled the trigger and said the show was cancelled.
Kenny Ortega, alongside a gallery of behind-the-scenes snaps, wrote on Instagram: “Julie and the Phantoms #standtall. Our @julieandthephantoms family want to send our love and endless thanks to our Fantoms all over the world for the tremendous outpouring of love and support you have shown us since our premiere.
“We learned this week that Netflix will not be picking us up for another season. Although our hearts are saddened, we move on with such pride for what we accomplished as a team and the family we built while creating Julie. We hope you will continue to follow us as we move forward with our work and careers.”
He later added to People: “There was disappointment, there was hurt and there was even anguish. And then I kind of said: ‘Look, whatever comes next, if it isn’t a kind of afterlife for Julie, you’ll always be in my heart, you’ll always be in my thoughts and I will continue to make programmes with you in mind’.”
But fans weren’t done giving up hope, believing with a fair amount of pushing they could potentially pull a Lucifer and give the series a second life. It’s happened before, it can happen again, right?
Soon Twitter was blowing up with a #SaveJATP hashtag, and a website launched dedicated to ways in which viewers can get Netflix’s attention. This included a petition, which at the time of writing has over 180,000 signatures, and a GoFundMe page to help finance billboards and messages across the world.
Unfortunately, as of April 2022, it’s still not been enough.
Julie and the Phantoms season 2 cast: Who would have been in it?
If the show was returning, then Madison Reyes would have come back as Julie – she is the titular character, after all.
Then there’s guitar player Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Reggie (Jeremy Shada) on bass and drummer Alex (Owen Patrick Joyner) – the ghostly band that are working with the human Julie to propel them to stardom.
Booboo Stewart as Willie, Jadah Marie as Flynn, Savannah May as Carrie, and the chilling Cheyenne Jackson as Caleb would’ve also likely made a comeback.
