Josh Taylor has demanded a match with Jack Catterall, and has urged him to English boxer to “get his fingers out’ and bring the fight to life.
Taylor took a split decision that was controversial against Catterall back in March , to keep his undisputed super lightweight World Champion status. The judges scored the match with Catterall scoring 113-112 and 113-112 and 114-111 to Taylor. But, many who watched believed that it was a good fight. Prestonpans fighter was lucky not losing his crown. The judge Ian John Lewis was downgraded by the British Boxing Board of Control due to his large card.
Taylor admitted he was struggling prior to the fight however, he gave an candid assessment of his performance. He’s determined that Catterall will not take on him at his peak and has told him he will not be waiting for forever to get another fight. “Camp was not great however it’s not a reason to excuse it,” Taylor told IFLTV. “At the conclusion of the day, I was in a s***e’. An unprofessional performance, and Catterall did a decent job. I’m still being accused of it, but I believe that I was able to prevail.
“But having said all that there were plenty of rounds which could have been his way. If it was the other fighter, I’d be devastated by being stripped of my title, however I truly believe that I did my best to prevail. In the end I was *****g the s**t. I was overweight, unmotivated, and unmotivated , and that resulted in a poor performance.
“I would like to be involved engaged in fights that provide me with the drive and motivation to succeed, but if I’ve not had the drive and motivation it’s clear the mistakes that took place. I wasn’t doing it correctly. If I’m going to keep my weight at 140 pounds, my ultimate goal to fight is that Catterall fight. This is the reason why I’m at my weight.
