Fleur East fell into tears when she appeared at The ITV’s Lorraine in the morning of Thursday (August 11, 2007). The performer revealed that she’s the latest celebrity participating in this season’s Strictly Come Dancing.
The Hits Radio host is the 12th celebrity to be signed to The BBC One show. The show’s popularity returns to the screens in the fall when a new batch of stars take to dancing.
Manchester Evening News reports that Fleur is “nervous” but also “thrilled” to be participant in the program. In a statement regarding her inclusion included in the cast of Strictly, the cult show, the performer and presenter stated: “I’m equally nervous and excited to be a the presenter of this year’s Strictly lineup.
“I’m eager to acquire new techniques and want to enjoy every minute of this incredible adventure. It’s an honor to be part of the show after many years of watching it together with my Father who loved it to the core.
“Unfortunately, my Dad is no longer with us but I know he will be watching over the ballroom in spirit. I’m doing this to make him and my family proud and can’t wait to get my dancing shoes on!”
The emotional response to the loss of her dad, Malcolm East, continued when she spoke to Ranvir Singh on the ITV program Lorraine. In her first television interview after being announced as an aspiring contestant on the cult show, dance competition earlier this morning, Fleur told Ranvir, who will be acting as a replacement the role of Lorraine Kelly over the summer she hopes that she can dance to her own tracks.
“I hope I get to dance to some of my songs… for me it’s quite emotional. My dad who passed away in 2020, Strictly was his favourite show.”
In a state of emotional rage She spoke of her father, who passed away on the 20th of January, 2020 “I’m going to be doing it for him. I’m just gutted he can’t see me do it, but I’m going to keep him in mind during the show… I’m excited, my family, just for that reason, will be buzzing.” Fleur said: “I wasn’t expecting to get this emotional about it.”
In the midst of her tears, Fleur, who came second in the episode eleven of the ITV show The X Factor before appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, also said she’s eager to do the Cha-Cha-Cha. She added “I know it’s speedy and Latin vibes, so I’m looking forward to that!”
With experience in dance from performing on stage as well as being in a live entertainment show previously the 34-year-old confessed that she’s under pressure and required to perform well. She stated, “There’s too much pressure that I’m scared, Ranvir. I’m able to dance in the club and also sing on the stage, but I’ve never danced in a technical way which is why I don’t know any ballroom dance moves and how to point a toe , or any other similar thing.”
She stated “This is a completely different level. You need to give me some advice, Ranvir!” She’s hoping that her experience as a an expert personal trainer will be in her favor. “Hopefully that will work for me with stamina, but I’m terrified of the level of technique that I have to learn because I’m working with professional dancers that have done this for years and I’m completely out of my depth,” she explained.
Fleur has also shared that her 12 year old husband was thrilled for her to appear present on the show. She added: “He is so excited. Marcel cannot wait for me to do this. He’s like, ‘Right let’s go, let’s get you focused.’ He’s going to be like my coach at home.”
