Hunters season 2 : The first season of Hunters has divided critics and fans alike This should come as not a surprise considering it is an Amazon Prime Video series revolves around both fictional and real Holocaust massacres as well as experiences with Nazis.
“We’re not trying to make human Nazis,” said executive producer and co-showrunner Nikki Toscano on an Amazon TCA panel (via IndieWire).
“Some Nazis are over to one extreme, while others Nazis have different reasons for their behaviour… These arguments don’t resonate with our hunter… Our goal is not to humanize them however we do recognize the existence of a range of opinions.”
There was also a suggestion that the Al Pacino-led series glorifies violence and, naturally, resulted in some comparisons to the work of Quentin Tarantino.
“He’s an expert and I adore his work,” series creator David Weil said to Inverse. “I believe the most difficult thing is that I didn’t planned to have the series to be Quentin Tarantino or Tarantino-light.”
But clearly none of the aforementioned criticisms made a dent because Hunters has been renewed for season two.
Chatting about the good news, Weil said, “I am beyond grateful to [Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios] and the Amazon family for their continued extraordinary support of Hunters.
“Alongside our magnificent cast, incredible crew, and brilliant writers and producers, I am more eager than ever to share the next chapter of the Hunters saga with the world.”
Hunters season 2 potential release date: When will it air?
Season one arrived on Amazon Prime Video in February 2020, and was renewed in August last year for a second season. However, the pandemic delayed the start of production, and filming was rescheduled to start in the autumn of 2021.
The Prague Reporter speculated that filming would start in the Czech Republic in October, going by reports from local casting agencies.
Creator David Weil confirmed filming would take place in Europe in October in an interview with EW, saying, “I’m gonna get in trouble for saying this, but we’ve completed our US leg of filming and we will be shooting in Europe in the coming days. So, we’re very much in production and I hope that we’ll be speaking at some point next year about the release of Hunters season two.”
However, as of July 2022, not much progress has seemingly been made with the second season and there have been no further updates.
All we know for now is that everything is being kept under wraps for the time being, but Weil has hinted that the wait will be worthwhile.
“I can’t, you know, speak too much about it. But a lot of great things are happening with it. And we’re close to really diving in, in a big way,” he told TechRadar.
“I’m very, very excited about season two. And I think the only thing with Hunters that you can always expect is to expect the unexpected,” he added, “and I think that an audience will be in for a lot of great role reversals twists, turns and rug pulls.”
Hunters season 2 cast: Who’s in it?
Al Pacino might be the main draw here, but following that shocking finale, the only way he could return in season two is via flashbacks.
In April, Deadline reported that season two would have a new lead – The Hateful Eight actress Jennifer Jason Leigh is joining the cast as Nazi hunter Chava Apfelbaum.
“Jennifer is an act, wildly brilliant, insightful, soulful,” Weil shared. “She is a chameleon through and through, and I think audiences will be on their toes and on the edge of their seats watching her. But more so, she is just such a kind and thoughtful and generous person. Adding her to our Hunters family has been so special for me, for the cast, and for the production as a whole.”
There are some more additions to the cast, too. Riverdale’s Tommy Martinez and Fear Street’s Emily Rudd both have as yet unknown roles, while German countercultural legend Udo Kier has been cast as Adolf Hitler.
“I want to follow through on the promise that I made to audiences at the end of season one,” Weil said in the EW interview, referring to the brief scene in which Hitler was seen in Argentina. “I think the introduction of perhaps the most villainous character in history deserves a fitting season that pursues that character. My hope for season two is that there’s a great deal of thrill and terror, emotion, heart, catharsis, peril, and to deliver a season that is even bigger, that really builds on season 1 and pays off for our audience in a big way.”
These season one cast members are also likely to reappear in season two:
• Logan Lerman as Jonah Heidelbaum
• Jerrika Hinton as Millie Morris
• Lena Olin as The Colonel/Eva
• Saul Rubinek as Murray Markowitz
• Carol Kane as Mindy Markowitz
• Josh Radnor as Lonny Flash
• Greg Austin as Travis Leich

• Louis Ozawa as Joe Torrance
• Kate Mulvany as Sister Harriet
