It is expected that the Betfred Challenge Cup final will be played in August, when it will return to Wembley in 2023. In addition, this is the first time, the women’s Final of the Challenge Cup will form an integral part of the traditional celebration.
The 2023 final will be held in twelve months’ time on August 12, 1895 Cup final as well as Year 7 Champion Schools will also be part of the finals day.
The Rugby Football League opted to move the 2022 final at Tottenham in May, as Wembley was not available it has proved to be loved by supporters, hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to the venue, even though the league has a long-term agreement with the National Stadium Company.
RFL Chief Commercial Officer Mark Foster said: “Wembley Stadium is the cup final’s sacred home. It’s a fantastic stadium with a myriad of things to do close to fans of all ages, such as the famous Wembley Way.
“And I am thrilled that as the first time ever within Challenge Cup history, the final for women will take place in Wembley Stadium.
“It’s already been a tremendously important year for women’s sport in the country. This will continue when we host this year’s Rugby League World Cup later this year.
“We worked for a while to bring the women’s final in the same time slot as the male’s. it is time to do this. will give the sport the boost it needs.
“Our commercial and strategic partner, BBC, IMG and Betfred are also enthusiastic about this year’s Finals Day.”
