A three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka will face World No. 44 Brandon Nakashima in the second round of the 2022 Swiss Indoors on Thursday.
Wawrinka was playing against World No. #3 Casper Ruud in the opening round. The first set of service games were simple and quick for both players in the first set. The Swiss got his first bloody moment when his team scored a break during the seventh game and went 4-3 ahead.
Ruud had three break points during the next match to be back to serve but he missed every opportunity. Wawrinka was able to serve through the set without difficulty to get himself into the leading position. They held their serve very well in the second set.
A poor performance from Ruud at the end of the match ended the match when he lost his serves in the 9th game. Wawrinka took over the match with the next game and won the match 7-6 and 4-4.
Brandon Nakashima was drawn against David Goffin in the opening round. The Belgian was off to an impressive start in the first set when he broke his opponent’s serve twice and took a be ahead 5-1. He won the set shortly after the break.
The two players could not get the break during the 2nd set. This led to an unbreakable tie. Nakashima was the winner in the second set to win this set, forcing a decisive. Nakashima was the American won an escape during the 5th game in the set to make it 3-2 and then followed that up by securing a grip by himself to take it to 4-2.
Goffin could not put much pressure upon Nakashima in the closing stages in the game. Goffin, who is 20 years old, ended the match with the two-six, 7-6(4), 6-4 comeback victory.
