Tipping Point and Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard shared with viewers that he needs surgery to repair a nerve injury in his leg sustained during a football match two week ago.
On GMB’s morning program, he explained that he had broken his anterior cruciate ligament and tore his meniscus. He also fractured his leg in a football match. He was admitted to hospital for an operation on July 6.
Shephard posted an image from his hospital bed. He held his leg straight up to the camera, which had pen markings before his operation.
According to The Daily Star, he captioned the photo with “Op happens today!” So far, so good! The arrow is on its correct leg!
“Andi Peters is on TV and has super-stylish socks in place.”
Ben uploaded a clip to his Instagram story showing his leg with an orange cast. Fans questioned the line, but Ben assured them that it wasn’t fake tan.
He stated, “That’s not fake tanning by the way, I promise. Despite my Essex roots I didn’t fake a tan before my operation.
“So, they have repaired the ACL & the meniscus. Now comes the slow rehab.
Ben said, “I must say however that the painkillers seem like they are doing the job right at the moment.”
As he rebuilds his strength, he will need to recover.
Ben continues to update his Instagram. He even made a subtle joke at Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway, asking why they allowed him to broadcast while on painkillers.
Susanna joked with Ben about what had happened to his leg and Ben explained it.
He stated, “A few weeks back, you may recall I played in Cup Finale of the Arthur Dunn veterans Cup, my old boys team.
“I have ruptured my ACL without realising and I have torn the meniscus. I also fractured a part of my leg.”
After his initial recovery, it is likely that he will resume hosting duties. However, he might remain in a cast for some time.
