Baptiste season 3 : Julien Baptiste’s bizarre missing person investigations have kept viewers riveted from his debut in The Missing right through to his own spinoff.
Will there be a third series after he has completed two series?
After returning to the scene in July 2021 with The Killing Eve’sFiona, a British Ambassador who needed his assistance, Baptiste witnessed the detective’s investigative skills stretched to the limit.
This is what happened, and what it means for the future of the show.
Baptiste: What was the story during season 2?
Baptiste, whose declining health continued to worsen, was left fighting for his life during the second season.
To be fair to him, however, you can try to dismantle a terrorist organization while keeping your marriage intact.
Emma Chambers (Fiona Shaw), a recruit, asked her to help find her son. But things quickly spiralled out of control when he disappeared in an underground terrorist organization.
Emma was the mother of Laura, a third child who had been killed by an immigrant. Her family tragedy was the catalyst for her sons’ radicalisation. They blamed all immigrants for their sister’s death and were later recruited by a far right terrorist organization, led by the mysterious Gomorrah.
Julien Baptiste was still alive at the end of the series, having been nearly pushed off his feet by extremist Andras Jurszt.
Julien, who had seen his entire life flash in front of his eyes, vowed to begin over again. Julien is seen with his granddaughter whom he raised with his wife.
Season 3 of Baptiste: Will it ever come to pass?
Although it’s impossible to predict the future, it seems that this is the end of the European detective.
Talking to Metro Harry Williams, the co-creator and writer of the series, explained why we haven’t seen Tcheky Karyo’s protagonist, despite what they originally intended.
He explained that after we had completed the Baptiste series 1, we had an idea to make a trilogy. It was great and very exciting.
“And then, we thought about it. What we didn’t want to ever do was see him become another cop… He is more than a detective. He doesn’t just go in to find some information and then head home. You have to go through big arcs… Every year we’ve had the pleasure of doing that with big bold stories that take him on a journey.
After much thought, they decided to stick with their season two plan, meaning that Baptiste would be the last outing.
Harry said, “It’s all about doing the right things for the character, and not going, “Hey, we’ll return next year with more crazy adventures,”
His life was in danger in series 2, so swapping carrots for criminals seems like a smart and genuine choice.
The duo isn’t resting on their laurels, however. They have been busy with several projects under the banner of Two Brothers Pictures, including The Tourist, an Australian outback thriller starring Jamie Dornan (The Fall), Shalom Bune-Franklin (“Line of Duty”) and Damon Herriman (“Mindhunter”), among others.
It will be available on our screens in 2022.
They also produced ITV’s Angela Black which featured Joanne Froggatt, Liar. She plays a woman trapped in a relationship she cannot escape until a private investigator offers her help.
