Amazon purchased Whole Foods for $13.7 billion in 2017. This is the largest acquisition by Amazon to date , and is also the company’s first venture into brick and mortar retailing. By acquiring Whole Foods, Amazon now provides essential food items at lower costs.
Customers can also order via Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh the grocery delivery service. Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods permit Amazon to be competitive in the market for fresh food.

Zappos is an Las Vegas, Nevada-based online retailer of clothes and shoes. Zappos has seen rapid growth in its own independent manner prior to the time Amazon bought it for the sum of$1.2 billion in 2009.
